Interesting Facts about the New Jersey Fox You Didn't Know

Fox are agile Elizabeth creatures that are often mistaken for dogs, wolves, and jackals. However, they have thin legs and pointed snout that separates them from the rest of the Canidae members. They are social creatures and flexible on their natural diet since they are omnivores. They are found in various areas of the world particularly in North Africa, Asia, Europe, and North America. They can also establish their habitat in different kinds of terrains. 



Appearance of the Fox

Fox are small New Jersey mammals that are around the size of medium-sized dogs. They are light and may weigh at a minimum of 680grams or as much as 11kg. Perhaps the smallest of them would be the fennec fox which grows at around 9 inches which is not bigger than your average house cat. They weigh at least 1 kilogram. There are species of fox that can reach up to 34 inches. The tails may add to their overall length which can extend up to 22 inches. 

Habitat of the Elizabeth Fox

The fox prefer to live in the forested areas. Nonetheless, they can also thrive in the mountainous region, deserts, and grasslands. They establish their den by creating burrows. They will look for a place that will provide them with warmth and it should also be a place where they can rear the young puppies. They also use their burrows to store their foods. The burrows should have enough space to accommodate the fox and the entire family. It comes with multiple exits that enable them to flee in case there is a predator.

Behavior

Foxes are social New Jersey creatures that live with a pack that is called earth, skulk, or leash. Regardless of how you call a pack of foxes, they love to be close to their family members. A leash of fox will include their older siblings, mothers, mates, and other foxes that are similar with their breeding age. The male foxes are referred to as reynards or tods while the females are known as vixen.

Foxes are nocturnal creatures that prefer to hunt during nighttime. At daytime, they love to sleep but this can still change depending on the lives of the pack. In case their habitat is found in a safe area, the fox may choose to hunt during daytime. They have excellent eyesight that enables them to accurately pinpoint their target at a distance.

Natural Diet of Fox

As aforementioned, New Jersey foxes are omnivores. This means that they can digest meat and plant-based food. Generally, their natural diet is consists of the smaller animals such as hares, rabbits, mice, voles, rats, and lizards. They will also eat bugs, birds, and fruits. Foxes that dwell close to the water source will hunt crabs and fish. In the urban community, they will also rummage our trashcan to collect food scraps.

During the breeding season, the female will produce a unique call that will notify the Elizabeth male foxes that she is ready to mate. Gestation period will be about 53 days that will give birth to about 2-7 little foxes.
